God’s Sustaining Words During COVID-19

Faithfully Loving & Serving, from a distance, during COVID-19

As orders to stay at home came down, and over the past weeks the distance between us was advised from 4 feet… to 6 feet… to even more if we’re jogging… we’ve had to rethink our communal gatherings for meals and Bible Studies from week to week.

Well before Easter we decided, with heavy hearts, that gathering in-person even for curb-side meal and groceries pick-up at the church would risk the health and safety of our more vulnerable neighbors. So we’ve moved to home delivery of meals, groceries, diapers, and feminine products with hopes that in God’s good time, we will come together once more around a common table to celebrate life and dwell in God’s Word that stirs our souls.

God’s Sustaining Word

As Jesus wisely says, “We humans don’t live by bread alone,” (Luke 4:4) but by every word that comes from God’s mouth.

And in Isaiah 55:10-11, the Lord says “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven… and water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout… so shall My word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish what I purpose.”

So, we’re inviting everyone involved in this ministry of sharing food and other needful supplies to share with the community the Word of God that is sustaining them in this time. Below are some of the responses that came in almost immediately when we sent out the call!

Our hope is that as we’re separated and perhaps feeling the weight of depression, anxiety, and loneliness, we can remind each other of God’s faithfulness and the nourishing divine Words we’ve been given.

May these prayers offered by members of our wide community give you words when your prayers falter and assurance of God’s mercy and presence with you in all your trouble. Amen.

Psalm 61:1-4

1Hear my cry, O God;
listen to my prayer.
2From the end of the earth I call to you, when my heart is faint.
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I;
3for you are my refuge,
a strong tower against the enemy.
4Let me abide in your tent forever,
find refuge under the shelter of your wings.

Psalm 34:1-8

1I will bless the Lord at all times;
God’s praise shall continually be in my mouth.
2My soul makes its boast in the Lord;
let the humble hear and be glad.
3O magnify the Lord with me,
and let us exalt God’s name together.
4I sought the Lord, and he answered me,
and delivered me from all my fears.
5Look to him, and be radiant;
so your faces shall never be ashamed.
6This poor soul cried, and was heard by the Lord,
and was saved from every trouble.
7The angel of the Lord
encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.
8O taste and see that the Lord is good;
happy are those who take refuge in him.
